Summary
Name
Oryza sativa subsp. japonica cv. Kitaake
Description

Rice (Oryza sativa) is a staple food for half the world's population. In addition to its critical role in global food security, rice serves as a model for studies of other monocotyledonous species, including candidate biofuel crops such as switchgrass. Kitaake, a Japonica rice variety, is neutral to photoperiod changes and has a very short life cycle (10 weeks), which significantly accelerates genetic studies. The sequenced strain is X.Kitaake, a line of Kitaake carrying the XA21 gene under control of the maize ubiquitin promoter (Li et al., 2017). (Source Phytozome)
